EWING, NJ - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team used a late game goal from freshman Hannah Kronick to defeat The College of New Jersey Lions 1-0 on a rainy Wednesday evening in New Jersey.
The Blue Jays and Lions came into the came as two of the top teams in Division III women's soccer with Hopkins ranked fifth and TCNJ 11th in the NSCAA Coaches Poll. Hopkins remains a perfect 12-0 on the season while the Lions fall to 9-3.
Despite outshooting the Lions 8-6 in the first half, the Blue Jays could not find the back of the net and took a scoreless tie into the break.
Kronick broke the scoreless tie early in the 68th minute when she took the rebound off the crossbar from a shot by junior Taylor Schulte and caught the TCNJ goalie, Cristina Gacos, off guard and powered the ball above her hands to put the Blue Jays up, 1-0.
With her team-leading fourth game winning goal of the season, Kronick extended her goal and point scoring streak to seven and 11 games, respectively, tied senior Erica Suter for the longest streaks in school history.
Johns Hopkins defense held the Lions to just six shots in the final 22 minutes to hold on to the slim lead.
Senior Kristen Redsun picked up her seventh win of the season as the Blue Jays posted their ninth shutout of the season.
Johns Hopkins returns to the field on Saturday, October 15 when the Blue Jays travel to Haverford, PA to face Centennial Conference opponent, Haverford with the game time set for 12 pm.
