WESTMINSTER, MD - The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer tied its highest goal total of the season as the Blue Jays downed Centennial Conference opponent McDaniel, 8-0, Wednesday afternoon behind sophomore Pamela Vranis' first career hat trick.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 16-0 on the season and 9-0 in the Centennial while the Green Terror fall to 2-13 overall and 1-8 in the CC.
Vranis scored her first goal of the game off a throw in from senior Pam Kopfensteiner that she rocketed deep into the box that Vranis took off the far post and shot it past the keeper for her eighth goal and first game winning goal of the season.
Freshman Hannah Kronick kept her scoring streak alive with a goal in the 23rd minute to put the Blue Jays up 2-0. Kronick took a pass from senior Paulina Goodman and tapped the ball from the right side. Kronick has scored a point in every game she has played in this season for the Blue Jays to extend her streak to 15 games. Vranis scored her second goal of the game just 11 seconds before the end of the first half off a rebound from a shot b sophomore Sydney Teng to put Hopkins up 3-0 at the break.
Sophomore Christina Convey played a ball into the right side of the box for Vranis who headed the ball into back of the net to complete her hat trick and give JHU a 4-0 lead. Just 24 seconds later, Kronick scored her second goal of the game dribbling the ball through the defense and score the Blue Jays' fifth goal of the game.
Senior Erica Suter scored her first goal of the game with less than fifteen minutes left to play taking a deflection off the keeper to put Hopkins up, 6-0. Just 50 seconds later, Suter scored her second goal of the game making a play on the ball into the left side of the net with the keeper out of the net.
With just 2:30 left to play, sophomore Kelly Baker tied the team's highest goal total of eight for the season when she found the back of the net taking the ball off a deflection by the keeper on a breakaway after a shot from senior Ava Scheininger.
Senior Kristen Redsun and junior Meredith Maguire split time in the net for the Blue Jays with Redsun getting the win and making the Blue Jays lone save in the Hopkins' 12th shutout of the season. Jan Woolly took the loss for the Green Terror making seven saves and allowing three goals while Kristen Cochran finished the game in goal allowing five goals and making three saves.
The Blue Jays outshot the Green Terror 32-4 and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Johns Hopkins returns to the field when the Blue Jays host Gettysburg on Saturday October 29 at 7:30 pm. The winner will receive the CC regular season crown and the right to host the conference tournament set for the first weekend o f November.
