COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team picked up five more NCAA provisional qualifying times on Saturday on the final day of the University of Maryland Terp Cup. The Blue Jays, the only Division III team competing at the event, finished in sixth place with 230 points.
The Blue Jays had four swimmers place in the 200 Back, led by freshman Dylan Davis as he finished second in the B Final, 10th overall, with a finals time of 1:50.76. It is a career-best time and an NCAA B time. Sophomore David Woodford took eighth in the B final, as he touched in 1:54.76. Freshman Ryan Cunningham finished in fifth place in the C Final, clocking in at 1:56.30 and classmate Brad Hunt, took seventh place in 1:57.44. In the 100 Free, sophomore Anthony Lordi took seventh place in the A Final, as he finished in 46.12. His prelim time of 45.90 is an NCAA B time. Sophomore Ben Tillar placed sixth in the C Final with a career-best time of 47.56.
Senior Tim Nam finished in fifth in the B Final of the 200 Breast with a finals time of 2:08.42. Sophomore Alex Polyak placed fifth in the C Final, clocking in at 2:13.81, while freshman Gideon Hou placed eighth in 2:22.39. Freshman Gregory Kogut broke through with a finals time of 1:53.85 to win the B Final of the 200 Fly. It is a career-best time and an NCAA B time. Freshman Matt Myers placed second in the C Final with a time of 1:58.89, while classmate James Weber finished in seventh in 2:02.75. Junior Nick Schmidt qualified for the B Finals with a prelim swim of 1:54.78, but did not swim in the finals.
The night concluded with the 400 Free Relay, with Hopkins taking fourth and eight place. The team of juniors Dylan Coggin and Carter Gisriel, sophomore Joe Acquaviva and Lordi swam a time of 3:04.28, an NCAA B time, to take home fourth place. Coggin's split of 45.95 in the opening 100 Free leg of the relay is a career-best and an NCAA B time. Finishing in eighth place with a time of 3:08.09 were senior Eddy Zandee, sophomore Will Kimball, Tillar and junior Tyler Woods.
The Blue Jays will return to the pool on December 2-3 at the Gettysburg Invitational.
