TOWSON, MD - Host Towson beat Johns Hopkins, 172-117, Friday afternoon at Burdick Pool. The Blue Jays, who won five events, slip to 7-2 on the season. The Tigers win their fourth straight and improve to 9-1. Taylor Kitayama led the Blue Jays with three individual wins on the day.
Hopkins placed second in the 200 Medley Relay as Kitayama, Annie Tsay, Kylie Holden and Elizabeth Rogers swam a time of 1:48.57. In the 1000 Free, Cathy Howard was the Blue Jays top finisher with a time of 10:42.39 for fourth place. Molly Merkel placed sixth in 11:01.50.
Sarah Rinsma followed in second place in the 200 Free, touching in 1:56.89. Kitayama then earned the first of her three wins on the day, winning the 100 Back in 57.53. Daniela Villegas finished in fourth in 1:01.07. Tsay placed fourth in the 100 Breast, finishing in 1:07.95, while Cristina Cusumano placed sixth in 1:09.05. Holden swam a time of 2:15.90 to finish in fifth in the 200 Fly, while Melinda Yau finished in sixth in 2:17.23.
Rogers placed second in the 50 Free, touching just 0.02 seconds behind Towson's Kaitlin Burke. Rinsma followed in third in 24.71. Rogers then won the 100 Free, finishing in 53.37. Ana Bogdanovski took third place with a time of 54.42. Kitayama earned win number two, this time in the 200 Back, finishing in 2:04.32. Villegas claimed third place with a time of 2:10.37. Tsay placed fifth in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:30.77, while Maggie Storm placed sixth in 2:36.19.
Rinsma won a close race in the 500 Free, finishing in 5:08.47 to beat Towson's Tori Bagley by 0.39 seconds. Howard followed in third place in 5:14.93. Kitayama completed her hat trick, winning the 100 Fly with a time of 57.65. Holden would take fourth place in 1:00.29. Towson then swam exhibitions in the final two events - the 200 IM and the 400 Free Relay.
Hopkins returns to the pool tomorrow morning when the Blue Jays travel to Lexington, VA to take on Washington & Lee. The meet is slated to start at 11:00 am.
