Blue Jays Best Profs in Season-Opening Meet

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's swim team opened its 2012-13 season in impressive fashion, winning all 10 events in a relay meet versus visiting Rowan. The Blue Jays swept the top three spots in seven of the 10 events.

Hopkins opened the day with the 400 Medley Relay as the team of Melinda Yau, Taylore King, Kylie Holden and Taylor Kitayama took first with a time of 4:07.87. Following in second was Hannah Benn, Cristina Cusumano, Sarah Rinsma and Megan Auzenburgs with a time of 4:08.53. The team of Eva Schulteis, Maggie Storm, Shanshan Heh and Hannah Bunkin clocked in at 4:414.78 to take third place.

The Blue Jays followed that with a sweep of the top three spots in the 1000 Free Relay. Leading the way for Hopkins was Kylie Ternes, Daniela Villegas, Kristen Ferriero and Ellen Marcus as the quartet combined for a time of 10:21.92 to win by nearly seven seconds. Hopkins also dominated in the 400 IM Relay, claiming first through third. Touching first was the team of Holden, Sammi Fox, Rinsma and Auzenburgs at 4:20.27.

In the 200 Free Kick Relay, Yau, Schulteis, Alex Ladd and Sean McGrath won with a time of 2:27.29. While in the 300 Fly Relay, Auzenburgs, Kitayama, Nicole Wain and Jeanne Banky were the winners with a total time of 3:02.12. The winners in the 300 Back Relay did so in impressive fashion as Bunkin, Marcus, Fox and Kitayama clocked in at 2:51.58 to win by more than 10 seconds.

Fox, Cusumano, King and Storm finished in 3:30.83 to win the 300 Breast Relay by nearly 16 seconds over the team from Rowan. In the 500 Free Relay, it was Ternes, Bunkin, Marcus and Eleanor Gardner combining for the win with a time of 4:44.21. The 200 Medley Relay was won by Kitayama, Cusumano, Holden and Auzenburgs with a total time of 1:51.88. Hopkins then closed out the day with the 200 Yard Relay as Storm, Rinsma, Cusumano and Ladd won with a time of 2:59.45 to best the Profs' team by more than 12 seconds.

Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, October 27 as the Blue Jays host the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats at 11:00 am in the Newton White Athletic Center.
