BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team kicked off the 2012-13 campaign with a relay meet win over visiting Rowan Saturday morning. The Blue Jay won eight of the nine events, all relays, to open the season on a high note.
The Blue Jays opened the meet with a sweep of the top three spots in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of Justin Tang, Joe Acquaviva, Anthony Lordi and Tyler Woods won the event in 3:31.98. Following in second was the team of David Woodford, Gideon Hou, Joseph Connors and Dan Raynard in a time of 3:35.85. Closing out the sweep was Dylan Davis, Alex Polyak, Carter Gisrieland Edward Pagano in 3:36.04.
The Blue Jays also swept the top three spots in the 1000 Free and 300 Back Relays. Aaron Katrikh, Will Kimball, Alec Contag and Nick Schmidt took the win in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:19.34. In the 300 Back, it was Davis, Woodford, Ryan Cunningham and Michael McGoldrickclocking in at 2:40.56 to take the top spot.
Lordi, Ryan Walter, Polyak and Connors combined to win the 400 IM Relay as the quartet finished in 3:48.72. The Blue Jays followed with a win in the 200 Free Kick Relay. Kimball, Schimdt, Berkay Polat and Dylan Coggintook first with a time of 2:13.83. The 300 Breast saw the team of Acquaviva, Polyak, Hou and Bill Gravley finish first as they clocked in at 3:01.53, winning by more than seven seconds over the Rowan team.
Hopkins followed with a win in the 500 Free Relay by Katrikh, Raynard, Schmidt and Lordi finishing in 4:07.96. The Blue Jays then wrapped up the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Woodford, Hou, Pagano and Max Wildefinished with a time of 1:38.80 to win by just one-hundredth of a second over their teammates Davis, Acquaviva, Connors and Schmidt.
Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, October 27 as the Blue Jays host the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats at 11:00 am in the Newton White Athletic Center.
