ANNAPOLIS, MD - Johns Hopkins won eight of the 14 swimming events but fell by just 11 points to host Navy 135.5-124.5 in its final dual meet of the season. The Blue Jays suffer their first loss of the season, ending the dual-meet season at 8-1. The Midshipmen end their dual-meet season at 11-1.
Navy opened the meet by winning the first five events. The Midshipmen just beat the Blue Jays by five-hundredths of a second in the 200 Meter Medley Relay. The team of Dylan Davis, Joe Acquaviva, Carter Gisriel and Eddy Zandee just missed out on a first-place finish with a time of 1:45.39. Dylan Coggin, Alex Polyak, Nick Schmidt and Ben Tillar followed in third place with a time of 1:47.31.
The Mids then took first through third in the 800 Meter Free to pick up 16 points. Berkay Polat was the Blue Jays top finisher, coming in fourth in 8:49.18. Will Kimball followed with a third-place finish in the 200 Meter Free as he touched in 1:57.45, just missing a second-place finish by six-hundredths of a second. Davis took second in the 100 Meter Back with a time of 58.91, while Coggin took fourth in 1:00.12. Navy won another close one in the 100 Meter Breast, as Andrew Feeney beat Acquaviva by just seven-hundredths of a second. Acquaviva finished in 1:05.90 for second place.
Hopkins won the next four events, starting with Schmidt's win in the 200 Meter Fly. He touched in 2:07.04 to take the top spot and Greg Kogut finished in third with a time of 2:10.80. Gisriel then won the 50 Meter Free in 24.09 to just beat Navy's K.C. Linn, who touched in 24.12. The Blue Jays then went one-two in the 100 Meter Free to pick up 13 points in the standings. Coggin won the event with a time of 51.38, beating Tyler Woods by nearly two seconds (53.30).
Davis then led a Blue Jay sweep of the top three spots in the 200 Meter Back with a time of 2:06.97. Ryan Cunningham placed second in 2:09.16, followed by David Woodford in third in 2:10.13. Navy answered in the 200 Meter Breast by taking first through third. Ryan Woltornist was the Blue Jays top finisher, placing fourth with a time of 2:28.10. Hopkins then won the final four events. Schmidt picked up his second win of the day, taking the top first in the 400 Meter Free with a time of 4:05.18. Kimball placed fifth in 4:12.24.
Gisriel did the same in the 100 Meter Fly, picking up his second win with a time of 56.87. Acquaviva then won the 200 Meter IM, as he touched in 2:10.31. Joe Connors finished in a tie for fourth with a time of 58.03. Hopkins wrapped up the meet with a win in the 400 Meter Free Relay. Woods, Tillar, Coggin and Schmidt finished in 3:30.09 to, beat out Navy's team that swam exhibition. Zandee, Kimball, Ed Pagano and Gisriel placed in third in 3:33.91.
Hopkins returns to action at the 2012 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship February 15-18 in Charlotte, NC.
