INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team finished the second day of the 2012 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship in eighth place with 106 points. The Blue Jays had four swimmers earn individual All-America honors with one All-America relay team. Defending champion Denison holds a three-point lead over Kenyon (287 points) in the standings, while Emory is third with 198 points.
Juniors Nick Schmidt and Carter Gisriel earned First Team All-America honors in the 100 Fly to open the night. Schmidt finished in seventh place with a finals time of 49.13. The time is a career best and the sixth fastest time in school history. Gisriel followed in eighth place in 49.45. His prelim time of 49.08 was a career best and the fifth best time in program history.
In the 200 Free, sophomore Anthony Lordi earned First Team All-America honors with an eight place finish. He touched in 1:39.75 in the finals, while his prelim time of 1:38.93 was the second fastest time in school history. Sophomore Will Kimball finished sixth in the consolation final, 14th overall, as he clocked in at 1:39.74 to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Hopkins wrapped up the night with a seventh place finish in the 400 Medley Relay to earn First Team All-America honors. The team of freshman Dylan Davis, senior Tim Nam, Schmidt and junior Dylan Coggin swam a time of 3:20.57.
The NCAA Championship continues at the IU Natatorium on Friday, March 23. Day two will begin at 10:00 am with the 200 Fly preliminary. Fans can follow the championship with live results and video. Championship finals are slated to begin at 6:00 pm.
