Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Freshman Meg Van de Loo scored two goals in her second career game as Hopkins defeated Methodist 4-0 in the final game of the 2013 JHU Invitational. Senior Kelly Baker put away her first goal of the season in the match, while junior Sydney Teng scored the go ahead goal late in the first half.

The Blue Jay defense was stellar for a second straight day, allowing just four shots from Methodist and only one shot on goal in the game. Freshman Adrienne Johnson and Junior Emily Nagourney both played the entire match, while junior Maria Touloumes and senior Kylie Fuller provided excellent support in the backline.

Hopkins had several chances early on, but did not put one away until the 43rd minute when Sydney Teng drilled a left footed shot from the top of the box that went over the keeper's head. In the second half, the Blue Jays nearly took a 2-0 lead when a cross in the box ended up right in front of forward Hannah Kronick. The junior shot on an empty net, but senior Amanda Zimmerman made an excellent defensive save on the goal line to thwart the attempt.

The Jays were able to get the elusive second goal in the 68th minute, on a crisp cross from Kronick that Kelly Baker was able to squeeze into the bottom left corner. Forward Meg Van de Loo put the game out of reach late in the second half, scoring two goals assisted from Sydney Teng and freshman Vania Ludman. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin native led the team in goals (3) over the weekend to help the hosts win the 2013 JHU Invitational crown.

In Sunday's first game, Averett defeated Wittenberg 1-0 on a goal from senior Sandra Johansson.

Hopkins will now prepare for a much anticipated match up with the current No. 1 ranked Messiah Falcons on September 4 in Grantham, PA.
