Freshman Will Bellamy joined the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff as a student assistant not long after arriving at Homewood in August. An experienced writer, he will bolster the efforts of the office with a preview of each weekend's events (please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive in-depth preview of every game or event. Rather, it provides a quick overview for fans with key links and things to look for. Key games, especially those against nationally-ranked teams or those with playoff implications, will lead the column each week).
Women's Basketball
In sports, adversity presents the opportunity for teams to prove their mental toughness and, in the process, bolster their confidence.
The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team, which is currently fighting through a three-game losing slide, can pull off such a turnaround with a win at Haverford, currently the top team in the Centennial Conference, on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays (12-6, 10-3 in CC play) started the conference season 10-0, but tough losses to Muhlenberg, McDaniel and Swarthmore, have allowed the Fords (16-1, 10-1) to creep ahead in the standings.
A victory would put JHU back on track and is likely achievable, especially if the Blue Jays can contain the Fords' Nina Voith and Elizabeth Lynch, who are averaging 15.6 and 13.4 points per game, respectively, this season.
Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.

Men's Basketball
The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team will have to protect its defensive interior to the best of its ability this weekend, when it takes on the Haverford Fords and their dominant big man, Brett Cohen.
Cohen currently ranks second in the Centennial Conference in both points (16.8) and rebounds (8.8) and has proven to be a matchup nightmare in the paint for a multitude of teams.
Fortunately for the Blue Jays (10-8, 7-4 in CC play), they have a strong interior player of their own in George Bugarinovic, who is averaging 13.4 points and 6.9 on the year. The Blue Jays can also throw 6-6 Connor McIntyre and 6-10 Matt Billups at the Fords (2-9, 6-10) if the game morphs into a slugfest down low.
The contest, which will be played at Haverford, is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. ET.

Men's & Women's Track
The Johns Hopkins men's and women's track teams will make the trip to Lewisburg, PA, this weekend for Bucknell University's annual Bison Open meet.
The Open will feature several familiar Centennial Conference opponents, Dickinson and Ursinus, as well as teams from York, Seton Hall, and Messiah. Bucknell, interestingly enough, will be without a number of its athletes as it has opted to send a contingent to the Penn State National Invitational.
The meet is expected to run through the entirety of Friday and Saturday.

Men's & Women's Swimming
The Johns Hopkins men's and women's swimming teams will travel to Fredericksburg, VA, this weekend to take on its University of Mary Washington counterparts in a non-conference head-to-head meet. It is the Blue Jays final dual meet of the season as they gear up for championship season.
The meet offers both teams a chance to bounce back from tough losses to Navy earlier in the week.
Competition will start at 6:00 p.m. ET for both the men and women.

Wrestling
The Johns Hopkins wrestling team has the opportunity to knock off the two teams with which it shares control over the Centennial Conference this Saturday when Ursinus and Stevens come to town for a three-team meet.
The Blue Jays, who currently sit at 3-0 in CC competition, have kicked off the conference season with a bang, dropping NYU, Washington & Lee and Gettysburg in recent weeks. Wins over the Bears and Ducks would only add to their momentum.
JHU is expected to take on one team at 12:30 p.m. and the other at 2:00 p.m. ET, with the order being determined by the outcome of an earlier match between Ursinus and Stevens.

Men's Lacrosse
While the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team will only scrimmage Penn State on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field, the event should give curious Blue Jay fans a good early look at the 2014 edition of the team. The action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET.
