BALTIMORE, MD - The seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team got a second-half goal from senior Sydney Teng and the Blue Jay defense made that one strike stand up as Hopkins topped visiting Haverford, 1-0, at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon. The win is the 10th straight for Johns Hopkins, which improves to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference with the victory. Haverford fell for the fourth time in five games and slips to 5-6-2 overall and 1-5 in the Centennial.

Despite controlling the play and building a sizeable shot advantage, the Blue Jays couldn't solve Haverford's defense or goalie Kathy Prescott for the first 60 minutes. They finally broke through in the 63rd minute when sophomore Ana Bengoechea collected a loose ball near midfield and quickly moved forward. She sent a perfect through-ball to Teng, who was angling in from the flank, and Teng dribbled to the top of the box before firing a laser past Prescott just inside the near post.

Despite being outshot 10-2 in the first half, Haverford had the best scoring chance as Kristin Hasselgren ripped a free kick towards the top left corner, only to have Hopkins goalie Sarah Benett punch the strike over the crossbar. Neither of the Fords' two other shots was dangerous as Benett was forced to make just the one save in running her record on the year to a perfect 7-0. Hasselgren's shot jumped started a two-minute span of heavy pressure by Haverford that included three consecutive corner kicks, but none resulted in a shot and the game stayed scoreless through the half.

Hopkins pressured throughout, with the 10-2 shot advantage in the first half and a 9-1 margin the second, but only Teng's shot would elude Prescott, who posted four saves in the loss.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Wednesday, October 22 when the Blue Jays welcome Dickinson to Homewood Field. The Red Devils are currently 11-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Centennial.
