Box Score Oct. 22, 2014

Final Stats

BALTIMORE, MD - The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team scored four first-half goals, including three in a span of a little over nine minutes just before halftime, as the Blue Jays topped visiting Dickinson, 5-0, at blustery Homewood Field Wednesday evening. Johns Hopkins, which posted its 11th straight victory, improves to 13-2 overall and 7-0 in the Centennial Conference, while Dickinson slips to 11-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Centennial.

The victory also secures a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament for the Blue Jays, who remain a half game ahead of second-place Gettysburg. The Bullets beat McDaniel, 2-1, earlier today.

Playing with a gusty wind at their back in the first half, the Blue Jays outshot the Red Devils 17-1 in the opening half, but didn't solve Dickinson goalie Charlotte Armour until the 22nd minute, when junior Issy Berkey dribbled to the top of the box to Armour's right and the blew a shot into the far corner for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The three-goal flurry in the final 9:17 of the first half started when senior Allie Baker bent a corner kick high over Armour's outstretched arms and inside the far post to double the lead to 2-0.

The two-goal margin held for just under six minutes after Baker's goal and then doubled to four quickly. Senior Hannah Kronick got inside her defender 12 yards outside the frame and fired a ball across the goalmouth, where a Dickinson defender played it into the goal for an own goal. When Kronick collected a loose ball to Armour's right and fired home her 11th goal of the season three minutes later the Blue Jays had the 4-0 halftime lead.

The only scoring in the second half came in the 78th minute when Berkey scored on a penalty kick after freshman Bailey Monaco was taken down in the box. The five goals matches JHU's season high.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Dickinson outshot the Blue Jays 6-5 after intermission and forced JHU goalie Clara Aranguren to make four saves. Two of the four came on strong outside shots from junior Bridgette Corban, including one that Aranguren had to go high and punch over the crossbar.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, October 25 when the Blue Jays play at Bryn Mawr. A win in that game would secure a first-round bye in the Centennial Conference Tournament for Johns Hopkins.
