Oct. 24, 2014 Sophomore Will Bellamy joined the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff as a student assistant not long after arriving at Homewood in August 2013. An experienced writer, he bolsters the efforts of the office with a preview of each weekend's events (please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive in-depth preview of every game or event. Rather, it provides a quick overview for fans with key links and things to look for. Key games, especially those against nationally-ranked teams or those with playoff implications, will lead the column each week.) Football The Johns Hopkins football team will play its only game under the lights of Homewood Field this season when Gettysburg comes to town on Friday night. With a large turnout expected, the Blue Jays (6-0, 5-0 in Centennial Conference play) will look to put their winning combination of swarming defense and high-octane offense on full display. However, Gettysburg (3-3, 3-2) has given its opponents everything they can handle this year. The Blue Jays will have to stay on their guard on both sides of the ball and play mistake-free football if they are to come away with the win. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
Live Video & Stats Field Hockey A berth in the Centennial Conference tournament is not out of reach just yet for the Johns Hopkins field hockey team. But the Blue Jays (6-8, 3-4 in CC play) will have to put together a late-season surge over their final three games in order to move up from seventh in the conference. JHU will have the opportunity to take step towards a spot in the postseason when it faces off against Bryn Mawr (2-11, 0-8) at Homewood Field on Saturday. The Owls field a pair of dangerous scorers in Holly Constants and Ashley Arbuckle (4 goals apiece) and can hold their own on the defensive end of the field. Match time is 1:00 p.m. ET.
Live Video & Stats Volleyball The Johns Hopkins women's volleyball team will look to win its sixth straight match when it travels to Bryn Mawr on Saturday. However, a win against the Owls (10-13, 1-7 in Centennial Conference play) will not come easily for the Blue Jays (14-10, 6-2). Bryn Mawr has overpowered its opponents at the net behind the play of junior middle blocker Rachel Ofili (3.63 kills per set). JHU will look to
Liz Wuerstle,
Mereze Visagie, and others to counter the Owls' attack. The teams will kick things off at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Live Video Men's Soccer The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team will look to further its quest for a spot in the Centennial Conference tournament when it squares off against Muhlenberg on Saturday. The Blue Jays (8-4-2, 2-3-1 in CC play) are currently tied with Ursinus for the fifth and final spot in the tournament. Knocking off the Mules (9-1-2, 4-1-1) would be a step forward for JHU, but will not be easy by any means. Muhlenberg boasts four players who have scored at least four goals so far this season and has proven to be equally strong on the defense end of the field. Match time at Homewood Field is 5:00 p.m. ET.
Live Video & Stats
Women's Soccer The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team will look to record its 12th straight victory when it plays at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. A victory would also put the Blue Jays (13-2, 7-0 in Centennial Conference competition) one step closer to locking up the top seed in the conference tournament. But first, JHU will have to slow down the Owls' Alice Bell, who has notched four goals so far this season. The action is scheduled to get under way at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Live Video Water Polo Johns Hopkins hosts Navy in a key CWPA Southern Division match and the Blue Jays final home match of the season. Hopkins is looking to secure the number two seed in the upcoming CWPA Southern Division Championship. The Blue Jays are two points behind the Bucknell Bison entering the weekend. JHU faces Navy in back-to-back games to end the season, and a sweep of the Mids would lock up the number two seed. The match is slated for a 2:00 pm start in the Newton White Athletic Center.
Live Stats Swimming The Johns Hopkins men's and women's swim teams will head to Connecticut this weekend for an exhibition meet against Yale. While the meet will not officially count, it will give the Blue Jays a sense of where they stand heading into the season. Races are expected to start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Women's Lacrosse The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team will finish off its fall schedule with back-to-back matches against Maryland and Virginia this weekend. The matches are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET and 1:15 p.m. ET and will take place in College Park, MD.
