Bellamy's Breakdown - Previewing The Weekend (10-3-14)

Oct. 3, 2014 Sophomore Will Bellamy joined the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff as a student assistant not long after arriving at Homewood in August 2013. An experienced writer, he bolsters the efforts of the office with a preview of each weekend's events (please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive in-depth preview of every game or event. Rather, it provides a quick overview for fans with key links and things to look for. Key games, especially those against nationally-ranked teams or those with playoff implications, will lead the column each week).

Football
The Johns Hopkins football team will look to further its quest for a sixth straight Centennial Conference title when it faces off against rival Juniata at Homewood Field on Saturday afternoon.
So far this year, the Blue Jays (4-0, 3-0 in CC competition) have efficient and effective on both sides of the ball and have risen to 10th in the most recent Division III football rankings after last week's 42-26 win at 23rd-ranked Muhlenberg.
However, the Blue Jays will have to be on their guard against Juniata (2-2, 1-2). The Eagles have put up 27.2 points per game behind quarterback Ward Udinski, who leads the Centennial in passing yards with 993. Kickoff is slated for noon ET.

Field Hockey
After losses to Salisbury and Muhlenberg last week, the Johns Hopkins field hockey team has the opportunity to bounce back with a win against Swarthmore on Friday night.
In order to do so, the Blue Jays (4-5, 1-1 in Centennial Conference competition) will have to contain Swarthmore forward Erin Gluck (five goals so far this season) and pressure a Swarthmore defense that is allowing nearly six goals per game. The match, which will take place at Homewood Field, is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Men's Soccer
The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team will attempt to hand Dickinson its first loss in Centennial Conference play this season at Homewood Field on Saturday night.
The Red Devils (7-2-1, 3-0 in CC play) have looked dominant during their first three conference matches. They shutout both Ursinus and McDaniel and have beaten CC opponents by a combined margin of 10-2.
But the Blue Jays (6-2-1, 2-1) field a number of dangerous scorers, including Kotaro Mitsuhashi (six goals) and Samy Ramadane (four goals). They have also proven to be a tough match-up on the defensive end of the field. JHU will ride the crest of a two-game winning streak into this early-October Centennial showdown.
Match time is 5 p.m. ET.

Water Polo
The Johns Hopkins men's water polo team will spend the weekend in California as it competes in the annual Gary Troyer Memorial tournament in La Verne.
The tournament will feature teams from across the country and will give the Blue Jays an opportunity to prove themselves against elite competition. JHU is scheduled to take on the University of Redlands and Chapman on Friday and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and either MIT or Whittier on Saturday. All four of those teams are ranked in the top nine in the nation this week.
The tournament will take place at the La Verne Aquatic Center.

Volleyball
The Johns Hopkins volleyball team is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays (9-9, 2-1 in Centennial Conference completion) will take on Swarthmore at noon before squaring off against Neumann at 2 p.m. ET.
The Blue Jays dropped a 3-1 decision to Muhlenberg in their last outing and the match against the Garnet will be pivotal in the Centennial standings. SC is currently 3-0 in league play, while JHU sits at 1-1.

The meet will pit both the men and the women against powerhouses from all three divisions. The ninth-ranked men will compete against the likes of Iona, Villanova and Adams State while the top-ranked women will see Georgetown and Florida State among others.
The event, which will be hosted by Lehigh University, is set to kick off at 10 p.m. ET.
