Bellamy's Breakdown - Previewing the Weekend (11-14-14)

Nov. 14, 2014 Sophomore Will Bellamy joined the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff as a student assistant not long after arriving at Homewood in August 2013. An experienced writer, he will bolster the efforts of the office with a preview of each weekend's events (please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive in-depth preview of every game or event. Rather, it provides a quick overview for fans with key links and things to look for. Key games, especially those against nationally-ranked teams or those with playoff implications, will lead the column each week).

Football
Despite having already locked up the Centennial Conference title and an NCAA tournament bid, the Johns Hopkins football team will still have something to play for on Saturday.
The Blue Jays (9-0) will look to record their second straight undefeated regular season when they square off against the Green Terror of McDaniel at Homewood Field.
However, the Green Terror (1-8) have proven to be a tough team to beat for several CC programs this year. McDaniel fields a number of dangerous players on both sides of the field, such as senior wide receiver Nick O'Mella (645 yards) and freshman linebacker Drew Scott (57 total tackles). The team has also shown itself to be an opportunistic bunch, picking off eight passes and recovering nine fumbles so far this season.
JHU will have to continue to avoid making mistakes and put the ball in the hands of its playmakers if it is to come away with the win.
Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET.

Women's Soccer
The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team will kick off its NCAA Tournament run when it hosts a four-team regional at Homewood Field this weekend.
Hopkins will face Farmingdale State on Saturday with the hope of advancing to Sunday's match against the winner of SUNY Geneso and Frostburg State.
This year marks the seventh in a row that the Blue Jays have played host to an NCAA Regional. In last season's regional final, Hannah Kronick scored in double overtime to push the Blue Jays through to the Sectional Round of the tournament.
JHU will strive for a similarly successful outcome this time around as it seeks to build on last year's run, which ended in the quarterfinals.
The Blue Jays will play at 5 p.m. on Saturday and, if they advance, at the same time on Sunday.

Men's Basketball
The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team will open the 2014-2015 season with the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at York College.
The tournament will pit the Blue Jays against the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley on Saturday and either Keuka or York on Sunday (depending on the outcome of the first game) .
JHU will look to build on last season, during which the Blue Jays went 17-11, won the Centennial Conference title and earned a spot in the NCAA Division III tournament. The team has retained much of the roster from last year, including its top three scorers in Jimmy Hammer, George Bugarinovic and Gene Williams.
Saturday's game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. ET and Sunday's game will start at either 5 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Men's & Women's Cross Country
Both the Johns Hopkins men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regionals in Newville, PA, on Saturday.
The meet marks the last event before the NCAA Championships for the Blue Jays and will pit them against a number of top teams. Both teams are looking to repeat as NCAA Mideast Champions as the JHU women have won six straight titles while the JHU men took home its first regional title last November.
The women are currently ranked 1st in Division III while the men are 19th.

Wrestling
The Johns Hopkins wrestling team will travel to Lexington, VA, on Saturday for dual meets against Ohio Northern and Washington & Lee.
