Maryland Round Robin 
COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team picked up four wins in four matches at the MACFA Round Robin at Maryland on Sunday. The Blue Jays improve to 21-9 on the season as they eclipse 20 wins for the second straight year and 21st time overall. Hopkins earned wins over host Maryland (19-8), William & Mary (20-7), Virginia (25-2) and Navy (24-3). Junior Aravind Menon led the Blue Jays with a 12-0 record on the day.
Hopkins opened the day against Maryland, winning the Foil (7-2) and Sabre (8-1), en route to the overall win. The Terps grabbed a win in the Epee, 5-4, despite two wins each from sophomores Mark Zimmermann and Andy Huang. Junior Robert Goldhirsch and sophomores Glenn Balbus and John Petrie each won two bouts to lead JHU to a win in the Foil. In the Sabre, Menon and freshman Patrick Rose combined to go 6-0 in the Jays' win. The Blue Jays then took down the Tribe with a sweep of all three weapons. Freshman Nathaniel Green led the Blue Jays with three wins as they took the Epee, 6-3. Goldhirsch, Balbus and senior Evan Stafford picked up two wins apiece as JHU won the Foil by the same 6-3 score. Menon and Rose once again totaled six wins for an 8-1 win in the Sabre.
Hopkins then faced Virginia and dropped just two total bouts on the way to the win. Zimmerman won all three of his bouts in an 8-1 win in the Epee for the Blue Jays. Goldhirsch and Balbus each went 3-0 in the Foil and JHU earned a 9-0 win. The Sabre saw Menon and freshman Daniel Dembner go 6-0 in the Jays' 8-1 win. Hopkins wrapped up the day with the win over Navy, sweeping all three weapons, including shutouts in the Foil and Sabre. Huang, Green and Zimmermann each went 2-1 as JHU won the Epee, 6-3. In the Foil, Goldhirsch and Balbus each went 3-0, while Dembner, Rose and Menon did so in the Sabre.
Menon led the Sabre squad, which went a combined 33-3, with a 12-0 record. He is now 44-15 on the season and with 156 career wins, he is tied for 16th in school history. Rose went 11-1 to improve to 56-28 on the season, while Dembner's 10-2 mark pushed his overall record to 35-18. In the Foil, Balbus and Goldhirsch each went 10-2 on the day. Balbus is now 58-19 on the season and 136-57 (overall) for his career. Goldhirsch is now 27-13 on the season and with 95 career wins is just five shy of reaching 100. Zimmermann led the Epee squad with a 9-2 record to improve to 45-31 on the season and 136-77 for his career, which ties him for 16th in program history.
