Sept. 12, 2014 Sophomore Will Bellamy joined the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff as a student assistant not long after arriving at Homewood in August 2013. An experienced writer, he will bolster the efforts of the office with a preview of each weekend's events (please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive in-depth preview of every game or event. Rather, it provides a quick overview for fans with key links and things to look for. Key games, especially those against nationally-ranked teams or those with playoff implications, will lead the column each week). Football The Johns Hopkins football team will kick off its pursuit of a sixth-straight Centennial Conference title with a game at Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.
In their season-opening 42-3 win against Randolph Macon last weekend, the Blue Jays looked balanced on offense and defense and played a number of players.
Senior quarterback Brad Anderson racked up three touchdowns in his first career start, running backs Brandon Cherry and Stuart Walters combined for 163 yards on the ground and sophomore receiver Quinn Donaldson emerged as the team's newest offensive weapon with five receptions for 111 yards and one TD.
On the opposite side of the ball, a swarming JHU defense recorded three interceptions and two sacks while holding RMC without a touchdown.
The Blue Jays will likely seek to deploy the same combination of high-octane offense and relentless defense against the Crusaders (0-1) this weekend. However, JHU will have to keep an eye on Susquehanna running back Tim Wade as well as the Crusaders' pass rush.
Game time is 1:00 p.m. ET.

The Blue Jays (4-2) dropped back-to-back games to third-ranked Messiah and eighth-ranked Lynchburg last week, but responded with wins against Roanoke and Stevenson.

Volleyball
The Johns Hopkins volleyball team will head to Newport News, Virginia this weekend for the annual Christopher Newport University Invitational.
The tournament will pit the Blue Jays (2-5) against 13th-ranked CNU, as well as William Peace, seventh-ranked Mount Union and Berry.
A young JHU team has played a strong season-opening schedule, dropping three matches to ranked opponents. However, a solid showing by the Blue Jays at the Invitational could help them get back on track as they head deeper into the season and open Centennial Conference Play.
JHU will play twice on Friday and twice on Saturday.

Water Polo
The Johns Hopkins water polo team has another weekend of action ahead of it with the annual Bucknell Invitational scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday.
The Blue Jays (1-2) will face Mercyhurst and Bucknell on Saturday and Penn State Behrend and Notre Dame of Ohio on Sunday before returning to Baltimore.
JHU opened the season last week at the Princeton Invitational, where weather conditions resulted in the Blue Jays playing only three of five scheduled matches. They routed Iona 20-11 before losing to Princeton and Brown by a combined margin of four goals.
JHU will take on Bucknell two weekends in a row as the Bison, along with the Princeton Tigers, are scheduled to come to Baltimore for the Blue Jays' first home matches of the year next weekend. Mark your calendars … a home water polo match is an event, not just a game!
Cross Country
The Johns Hopkins men's and women's cross country teams will look to continue their strong start to the year when they travel to Annapolis this Saturday for the Navy Invitational. Both the men and the women have taken the top spots at the Baltimore Metro and Salisbury Fall Classic meets in recent weeks. The women are currently ranked first in Division III while the men are ranked seventh.
Field Hockey
The Johns Hopkins field hockey team will play the first two matches of a four-match home stand at Homewood Field this weekend.
The Blue Jays will take on Rhodes on Saturday before squaring off against The College of New Jersey on Sunday.
JHU (3-1) has looked dangerous so far this year, especially when sophomore Austin Davis is on the field. Despite playing in only two games, Davis has already notched three goals and one assist.
The Blue Jays play at 1 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
