Box Score Sept. 13, 2014 Final Stats
BALTIMORE, MD - Senior Hannah Kronick notched two second half goals to push the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team past the TCNJ Lions, 2-1. With the win the Blue Jays move to 5-2-0 on the season, while TCNJ drops to 4-1-0.
Kronick's first goal came in the 62nd minute, as she collected the rebound off a free-kick and punished the ball past Kendra Griffith into the bottom right corner of the net. In the 79th minute, Kronick took a great cross from Maryalice McKenna and nailed a header into the back of the net. Kronick went for the hat-trick in the 81st minute, but her shot from the left side of the goal traveled wide to the right past the goal.
The Lions made things interesting in the last two minutes, with Christina Roach blasting a left-footed goal past Hopkins goalkeeper Clara Aranguren in the 89th minute. TCNJ kept the pressure on, until the final whistle, but ultimately it was too little, too late.
The visitors had multiple opportunities in the second half. Sophomore forward Christine Levering had a great shot in the 70th minute, but the shot traveled wide of the goal, keeping TCNJ scoreless at the time. Levering continuously put pressure on the Jays defense, tallying three shots on the night.
The game also saw some chippiness and frustration, as three yellow cards were distributed. McKenna received one late in the first half for being too physical on a header. After Kronick's second goal, Griffith's frustrations reached its peak, ultimately resulting in her receiving a yellow. The last of the game came on TCNJ's Justine Larocca in the 81st minute.
Aranguren gets credit for the win tonight, bumping her record to 2-2 on the season, while Griffith gets the loss for the Lions.
The Blue Jays are back in action Wednesday night as they host St. Mary's (MD). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Homewood Field.
