March 27, 2015 Sophomore Will Bellamy joined the Johns Hopkins Athletic Communications staff as a student assistant not long after arriving at Homewood in August 2013. An experienced writer, he bolsters the efforts of the office with a preview of each weekend's events (please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive in-depth preview of every game or event. Rather, it provides a quick overview for fans with key links and things to look for. Key games, especially those against nationally-ranked teams or those with playoff implications, will lead the column each week.)
Men's Lacrosse
The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team will make history this weekend when it hosts Rutgers in the Big Ten Conference's first men's lacrosse game.
The team competed as an independent for over 130 years, but announced its intention to join the Big Ten in June of 2013.
Now, against the Scarlet Knights, the Blue Jays will look to kick off a new era in the history of the program with a victory.
However, JHU will have to confront Rutgers' lethal scoring duo of Scott Bieda and Christian Trasolini, each of whom has 22 goals so far this season. Game time is 2 p.m. ET.
Baseball
The Johns Hopkins baseball team was unable to secure its first victory at Stromberg Stadium when it faced off against Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday night.
Fortunately for the Blue Jays, they will have not one, but two chances to bounce back with a win, as Hopkins (8-5) is scheduled to take on Centennial Conference rival Haverford in a doubleheader with games at 12:30 p.m. ET and 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
A victory by the Blue Jays would also end a three-game losing slide that dates back to the team's trip to Florida.
Women's Lacrosse
The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team will look to go undefeated in the month of March with a victory against UC Davis at Homewood Field on Saturday.
The Blue Jays (7-2) have come out on top in the five contests they have played this month and have dispatched teams like Georgetown and Vanderbilt in the process.
They will now turn their attention to the Aggies (1-6), who are in the midst of a trip to Maryland that began with a loss to Towson.
Hopkins will likely seek to contain UCD's Elizabeth Landry, who has recorded 23 goals and four assists so far this season, while continuing to employ a balanced attack on the offensive end of the field. The match is slated to start at 6 p.m. ET.
Track
The Johns Hopkins men's and women's track teams will have a busy start to the outdoor season this weekend as they will send athletes to both the Raleigh Relays and the Maryland Invitational.
The Raleigh Relays will run Friday and Saturday, while the Maryland Invitational will take place on Saturday.
Both teams won Centennial Conference indoor titles earlier this spring and are predicted by preseason polls to claim outdoor titles, as well.
Tennis
Both the Johns Hopkins men's and women's tennis teams will see plenty of action in Baltimore this weekend.
The men are scheduled to go head-to-head with Swarthmore at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and with Dickinson and Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. ET, respectively, on Sunday. Meanwhile, the women will face Bryn Mawr at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
