• The Short Story: Host and third-ranked Salisbury scored three first half goals en route to a 4-0 win over Johns Hopkins in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday night. The Blue Jays got a career-best 14 saves from sophomore Greta Helvie in the loss.
How it Happened
• Salisbury took an early lead after Sam Johnson dribbled up field and shot the ball under a charging Greta Helvie just 4:37 into the game.
• The Sea Gulls tripled their lead just before the half, scoring a pair of goals in the final three minutes. Johnson sent a long pass across the face of the cage and Courtney Jantzen tipped it into the top part of the cage at 32:36. With nine seconds remaining in the half Jessica Crew banged home a loose ball following a scrum in front of the Blue Jay cage.
• Salisbury pushed its lead to four at the 49:12-mark as Jantzen and Johnson connected for the second time. Jantzen deflected a long pass from Johnson past Helvie.
• With less than nine minutes to go, Megan Ophel fired a shot that eluded Tressie Windsor, but Amanda Cooper was there to make the defensive save and keep the Blue Jays off the board.
