How it Happened
• George Washington jumped on top early, going up 3-0 with 3:45 gone in the first period. Hopkins answered with goals from sophomore Giorgio Cico and senior Giovanni Cragnotti to pull within one with 2:27 to go. Bogdan Petkovic scored just 21 seconds later to give the Colonials a 4-2 lead at the break.
• Andrew Mavis sandwiched a pair of goals for the home team around a strike by sophomore Josh Kurtz and it was a 6-3 game with 5:03 to play in the half. That score held for nearly four minutes until senior Matt Fraser got the first of his three on the night to cut the deficit to two. That was short lived however as a Duke Becker goal pushed the Colonials' lead to 7-4 at the half.
• GW struck first in the third quarter, getting back-to-back goals from Petkovic to push out to a 9-4 lead. Hopkins responded with a six-on-five goal from Cico and an even-strength goal from freshman Finn Banks to make it 9-6 at the end of three.
• The Blue Jays picked up right where they left off, pulling within one thanks to a consecutive goals by Fraser. The Colonials came right back however, scoring three times in a 97-second span to go up 12-8. Hopkins wasn't going away though, scoring three unanswered to pull within one with 34 ticks on the clock. That would do it however as GW held on for the win.
