How it Happened
• The Foil squad lost to the Lions, 8-1, with freshman Jake Joram picking up the lone Blue Jay win. Meanwhile, the Epee squad lost a tough decision, 5-4. Junior Denis Routkevitch led Hopkins with a pair of wins. Columbia wrapped up the win with a 7-2 win in the Sabre. Junior Sandy Vingoe and sophomore Brian Huang each won a bout for Hopkins.
• In round two, Hopkins grabbed its first win of the season, with wins in the Epee (7-2) and Sabre (5-4). Freshman Adam Katwan won two of his three bouts as the Jays fell 5-4 in the Foil. Junior Max White and freshman Tiger Gao each won their three bouts to lead the Epee squad. And in the Sabre, Vingoe and senior Patrick Rose each went 2-1.
• Hopkins closed out the day with a three-weapon sweep in the win over NJIT. The Foil squad took a 6-3 win, led by Katwan's three wins. In the Epee, Gao and Routkevitch went a combined 6-0 to lead the way. And in the Sabre, Vingoe won all three of his bouts for the Jays.
