The Basics

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins water polo team fell 12-5 to Fordham in the third-place match of the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays finish the season with a 5-19 record.

How it Happened
• Fordham came out firing, scoring the game's first five goals. Hopkins finally got on the board with 36 ticks on the clock when senior Matt Fraser scored on a six-on-five.
• The Rams struck first in the second quarter and scored twice to push its lead to 7-1 at the 2:18-mark. The Blue Jays responded with goals from freshman Andres White and sophomore Ryan Masi to make it a four-goal game at the half.
• Fordham came out hot to start the third quarter, getting three unanswered in the first 1:57 to push out to a 10-3 lead. Fraser got his second of the afternoon to end the run at 5:34. But the Rams had one left in them in the quarter, taking an eight-goal lead into the final quarter.
• Once again, Fordham struck first, scoring on a six-on-five to go up 12-5. Sophomore Andreas Katsis scored what turned out to be the final goal of the game with 5:04 to play.

What it Means
• Johns Hopkins is now 19-4 all-time against Fordham, with the Rams winning two of three this season.
• This is the Blue Jays' third top-four finish in the conference championship. Hopkins finished second at the CWPA Championship in 2015 and fourth in 2009. This is the Blue Jays' first season in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference, which is in its inaugural season. • Fraser and sophomore Giorgio Cico were named to MAWPC All-Tournament Team First Team.

• The game was the final in the careers of Fraser, Giovanni Cragnotti and Bret Pinsker. The trio led Hopkins to 61 wins in their career, along with a runner-up finish at the CWPA Championship and two CWPA Division III Eastern Championships.
• Fraser finishes his career among the program's best. In JHU career history, he ranks 11th points (271), 11th in goals (177), ninth in assists (94), seventh in steals (156), fourth in blocks (30) and first in ejections drawn (241).
• Pinsker concludes his career with 75 career points, 39 goals, 36 assists, 36 steals, seven blocks and 58 ejections drawn. He ranks 24th in career assists, 21st in blocks and 10th in ejections drawn.
• Cragnotti ends his career with 95 points, 57 goals, 28 assists, 71 steals, 10 blocks and 84 ejections drawn. He ranks 20th in career assists, 17th in steals and seventh in ejections drawn.
