• The Short Story: The 19th-rankedJohns Hopkins women's lacrosse team got goals from 10 different players in a 17-3 win over visiting Hofstra Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Shannon Fitzgerald led the way with a game and career-high four goals.
How it Happened
• Hofstra struck first when Lindsay Scott took a pass from Tiana Parrella at goal line extended and scored from the left alley just 1:34 into the game.
• Hopkins answered with a 13-goal run that bridged halftime and saw seven different players score. Sophomore CeCe Finney scored back-to-back goals, just 49 seconds apart, to swing the lead in the Blue Jays' favor and jump-start the run. Finney got Hopkins on the board at 23:21 when she dodged across the fan and fired a shot across her body and inside the far post. She then cashed in on a free position shot, the first of three straight free position goals for the Blue Jays.
• Fitzgerald scored three of her career-high four goals in the first half as Hopkins built an 11-1 lead at the half. Finney also finished the first half with a hat trick.
• Senior Dene' DiMartino capped the run at the 19:56-mark of the second half with her second of the day, pushing Hopkins' lead to 13-1. Becky Conto picked up the Pride's second goal of the game with 18:03 to play, scoring on a low shot off the dodge. That ended a scoreless streak of 40:23 for Hofstra.
• The Blue Jays came back with three straight goals to push out to a 16-2 lead. Sophomore Anne Smith spun on her defender and scored from the top of the fan for her first career goal at 14:28. Just 82 seconds later, senior Caroline Turco scored on a beautiful behind the back shot with Smith getting the helper. DiMartino then completed her hat trick with 10:48 to play.
• Conto scored her second of the day for the Pride at 7:33 but sophomore Caroline Shinske answered with a free position goal, her first career goal, with 12 seconds to play.
