? The Short Story: The 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team used a 7-1 run that spanned nearly 21 minutes to take control in a 12-8 win over host Loyola Wednesday afternoon. Junior Emily Kenul led the Blue Jays with a game-high four goals, including the 100th point of her career.
How it Happened
? The Blue Jays struck first with a pair of goals in a span of just 2:01 to take the early lead. Senior Haley Schweizer put Hopkins on top with a free position goal at 27:45. Junior CeCe Finney then took a short pass from sophomore Miranda Ibello in the left alley and scored from in-tight to make it 2-0.
? Loyola got on the board at 24:59 with a free position goal from Cami Whiteford and then tied the game 44 seconds later. Whiteford found Frankie Kamely cutting down the right alley for the Hounds second goal.
? Kenul put Hopkins back on top at 17:01, dodging through traffic and scoring with a pair of defenders on her. The lead was short-lived however as Whiteford converted her second free position shot at 15:12 to knot the score at three.
? Kamely followed with her second of the day, scoring from close range on an assist from Taylor VanThof, to put Loyola on top. The Blue Jays found themselves trailing for the first time in 2017. Hopkins needed just 49 seconds to draw even on Kenul's second goal. Ibello found Kenul on the right post with a cross-cage pass for the quick-stick goal.
? Freshman Lexi Souder then scored on a nearly identical shot and pass from Ibello to put JHU up 5-4 with 9:44 to play in the half. The Greyhounds answered with back-to-back goals from Kamely and Whiteford to retake the lead at 6-5 with 1:26 to go. Kenul had the final say of the half however, scoring on a behind-the-back shot with 2.8 ticks on the clock to tie the game.
? Souder gave the Blue Jays back the lead with a free position goal just 1:33 into the second half. But once again the Hounds answered when Sabrina Tabasso dodged down the right alley and scored on a high shot just 50 seconds later.
? Kenul found the cage for the fourth time, scoring off a nifty feed from freshman Maggie Schneidereith at 26:04. That sparked a five-goal run for the Blue Jays and gave them the lead for good. Schweizer dodged the right alley and went low on Taylor Caldwell to make it 9-7.
? Ibello pushed the lead to three when she intercepted a Madison Fahey pass and scored from the doorstep with 19:55 to play. Sophomore Nicole DeMase added to the lead when she took a skip pass from Schneidereith and scored from the left alley nearly eight minutes later. Ibello then capped the run at 9:14 to stake Hopkins to a 12-7 lead.
? Megan Boepple got one back for Loyola, but it came with just 32.3 seconds remaining, to account for the 12-8 final. That ended a scoreless drought of 27:04 for the Hounds.
