Four Blue Jays Named First Team Google Cloud Academic All-District

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team placed four student-athletes on the 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District II Team as announced by the organization today. Toni Abate and Kristen Hori earned their second all-district honors while Maggie Coulson and Robyn Lipschultz were named to the team for the first time in their careers.
 
Hopkins has now produced 41 CoSIDA All-District selections, all coming under head coach Leo Weil. JHU has had at least two selections in 13 out of the last 15 seasons. Hopkins led Centennial Conference schools with the four selections this season.
 
The District II region includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
 
Abate, a senior defender, earned Third Team All-America honors last season after making the all-district team for the first time in her career. She has started all 19 games for the Blue Jays this season and scored her first career goal against York. For the season she has five points, which is also a new career-best. The Wellesley, MA native has a 3.93 GPA as a chemical and biomolecular engineering major and is a member of Johns Hopkins Women in Business and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. The senior captain is also on the student advisory board for the career center and is on the Phi Mu Fraternity Academic Excellence Committee. She has a full-time job lined up at Audax, where she was an intern last summer.
 
Hori, who earned all-district honors her sophomore season, is a molecular and cellular biology major and has an impressive 3.89 GPA. She is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society as well as a study consultant for Hopkins students. The Honolulu, HI native had an article published in the Clinical Pediatrics Journal and was also a research assistant at the Kamiya Lab at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting and has been a research scholar at Hawaii Pacific Health and volunteers at local schools. The forward has started 15 games this season and has 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists) this year.
 
Coulson is having a career season for the Blue Jays as the midfielder has set new career-highs in goals (9), assists (4) and points (22). She has started all 19 games for Hopkins and was named First Team All-Centennial. The junior captain is an economics major and boasts a 3.64 GPA. Off the field, she has interned at the Cloudburst Group and at the Williams Coulson Johnson Lloyd Parker and Tedesco Law firm. She is also a lifeguard at the JHU Recreation Center and serves as the Co-Director of Academics at the Alpha Phi Sorority.
 
Lipschultz, who is in her first season as the primary keeper for the Blue Jays, has a 12-2 record this season with six shutouts and was named Second Team All-Centennial, has a 3.82 GPA as a behavioral biology major. The junior has spent the last two summers as a research assistant at the Stem Cell Institute at the University of Minnesota and has also done clinical work at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also volunteers at Open Arms of Minnesota and is a tutor at Digital Harbor High School. The Wayzata, MN native is also a student-athlete mentor and a member of the women's lacrosse team.
 
The four student-athletes are now eligible for Academic All-American status, which is announced on December 4.
