Official CoSIDA Release

BALTIMORE, MD – Senior captain Toni Abate of the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team has been named a First Team Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-American it was announced today. Hopkins has now had 13 Academic All-Americans and Abate is the first to be named to the first team since 2011. The Wellesley, MA native is the fourth JHU women's soccer player to be named an Academic All-American multiple times.
 
The Division III Google Cloud Academic All-America program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division III Academic All-America teams. The first team women's squad has a 3.98 average GPA with the 34 total honorees coming in at 3.95.
 
Last season Abate earned Third Team All-America honors as JHU has had at least one Academic All-American in three consecutive years. She is one of 12 repeat recipients on this year's team.
 
Abate sports a 3.93 GPA as a chemical and biomolecular engineering major and has secured a full-time job with Audax Private Equity as a Deal Team Analyst after interning there the last two summers. She has made the Dean's List in four-straight years and has made the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll the last three seasons. Abate was elected to the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society and is a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity Academic Excellence Committee.
 
On the field, the senior captain started all 21 games and tallied one goal and three assists and was a key part of the JHU defense which allowed just 17 goals this season. Hopkins posted 11 shutouts this season and surrendered more than two goals only twice on the year while giving up just 86 shots on goal.
