Fabian Grabs Gold in 200 Free at NCAA Championships

The Basics
• Location: Indianapolis, IN • IU Natatorium
• The Short Story: Sophomore Brandon Fabian won the 200 Free NCAA Championship to lead the Johns Hopkins men's swim team on day two of the championships. The Blue Jays picked up 101 points and are fourth place with 166 points through 10 events.

Top Finishers
• Hopkins opened the night with a sixth-place finish in the 200 Free Relay to earn First Team All-America honors. Fabian, junior Emile Kuyl, senior Mark Wilson and freshman Nat Davenport combined for a time of 1:21.13 in the finals. Kuyl, juniors Michael Wohl and Alex Carson and Davenport swam a 1:20.99 â€" the second fastest time in program history â€" in the prelim. Kuyl's lead-off leg of 20.36 is the seventh fastest in school history.
• In his first individual A final at the NCAAs, Wilson took seventh place in the 100 Fly with a time of 48.69. He earns First Team All-America honors with his finish, while his prelim time of 48.47 is the seventh best in program history. Senior Jan Hagemeister finished in fifth in the consolation final as he finished in 49.42 and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.
• Fabian then grabbed a win in the 200 Free as he went wire-to-wire and beat the field to the wall in 1:36.94. His morning swim of 1:36.58 is the second fastest time in program history and just 0.16 seconds off the national record. His final swim is the sixth fastest time and he also adds First Team All-America accolades to his resume. Wohl won the consolation final with a 1:38.37, winning by more than two-tenths of a second.
• The Blue Jays ended the night with a fourth-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. Kuyl, junior Peter Lazorchak, Wilson and Fabian combined for a 3:16.08. The quartet earned First Team All-America honors and posted the fourth fastest time in program history.

For the Record
• Fabian's title in the 200 Free is the second straight for the Blue Jays and just the third in program history.
• Kuyl broke his own school record in the 100 Back when he led the 400 Medley Relay with a 48.41. He knocked three-hundredths of a second of his mark, set earlier this year.
