The Short Story: A strong second half led Santa Clara to a 13-7 win over the Johns Hopkins water polo team Friday night at the Princeton Invitational.

How it Happened
• Santa Clara struck first, taking the lead just 22 seconds into the game. Freshmen
Emerson Sullivan and
Jacob Whitaker then sandwiched goals around one from Sam Toriggino and it was 2-2 with 1:49 to play in the first. The Broncos then scored a pair in the final 1:32 to take a 4-2 lead after the opening quarter.
• Hopkins responded with three unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 5-4 lead into the half. Santa Clara scored the first three goals of the period to take a 7-5 lead before Whitaker ended the run at 3:26 with his second of the night. The Broncos responded with goals from Patrick Kirk and Scott Zurnacian to take a 9-6 lead into the final quarter.
• The fourth started much the same, with Santa Clara scoring back-to-back goals to push its lead to 11-6 midway through the quarter. Sophomore
John Murphy got one back for the Blue Jays, cutting the deficit to four with 3:16 to play. But the Broncos would tack on two more to grab the win.
