Johns Hopkins Edges Wagner; Sullivan Breaks Goals Record

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Basics
• Scores:
#16 Fordham-11, Johns Hopkins-8
Johns Hopkins-23, Wagner-22
• Records: JHU (10-19, 3-9) • FU (21-5, 8-2) • WC (6-22, 4-8)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Newton White Aquatic Center
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins water polo team split its matches on the final day of the regular season, falling to 16th-ranked Fordham before winning a shootout over Wagner in the nightcap.

How it Happened • Fordham
• The Rams jumped out to a two-goal lead but the Blue Jays battled back with goals from senior Finn Banks and junior Stephen Schmidt. Dimitris Koukias sandwiched goals around one from junior Nico Ivanov and Fordham led 4-3 midway through the second.
• Sophomore Emerson Sullivan knotted the score at four with 2:33, but the Rams answered at 1:22 to retake the lead. That one-goal lead was short-lived however as an Ivanov goal just 11 seconds later tied the game at five. Fordham had one final say before the half, scoring with four ticks remaining to take a 6-5 lead into the break.
• The Rams opened the third with back-to-back scores to push their lead to three at the 3:46-mark. The Blue Jays rallied with three straight, including a pair from Banks, to tie the game at eight with 1:01 to go. Fordham once again got a late goal, scoring as time expired to take a 9-8 lead into the fourth. Fordham would add two more in the fourth as the Rams held off the Blue Jays for the 11-8 win.

How it Happened • Wagner
• The nightcap was an offensive showdown as the Blue Jays and the Seahawks combined for an astounding 45 goals. In fact, 26 of those 45 goals came from just two players – Sullivan and Wagner's Oliver Fodor.
• The game got off to a slow start – relatively speaking – as Wagner led 4-3 after one quarter. The teams erupted for 16 goals in the second with neither team scoring more than two in a row. Sullivan put Hopkins up 12-11 at the half with his fifth of the game with just eight seconds remaining.
• Wagner opened the third with three straight to go up 14-12, but a 5-1 Hopkins' run, fueled by three Sullivan strikes, gave the Jays a 17-15 lead. Fodor bookended a Sullivan goal in the final minute of the quarter and Hopkins led 18-17.
• The Blue Jays used a 3-1 run to push its lead to three with 3:30 to go in the game. But the Seahawks wouldn't go away. They twice pulled within one in the final two and a half minutes, but the Blue Jays held on for the win.

What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 20-9 all-time against Fordham and earns just its second win over Wagner, improving to 2-6 against the Seahawks.

Inside the Box Score
