The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team competed at both the Elite Invitational at Penn and the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational at Haverford Saturday. The Blue Jays picked up three wins in its first dual meet action of the season. Â

How it Happened • Elite Invitational
• Hopkins opened the day against Princeton, with the Blue Jays grabbing a 5-4 win in the Sabre. Sophomore
Eryk Kokosinski led the Blue Jays by winning all three of his bouts and earned the squad's fifth to clinch the win.
• JHU followed with an 18-9 win over Air Force in the second round. The Blue Jays won the Foil (5-4) and the Sabre (9-0). Sophomores
Noah Park and
Evan Lau each won two bouts, with Park securing the win. Kokosinski, junior
Vance Wood and freshman
Sachin Mehta combined to go undefeated in the Sabre. The Epee squad lost a tough 5-4 decision, led by freshman
Jack Werrell, who had two wins.
• Hopkins then fell to host Penn, with the Quakers sweeping the three weapons. Werrell led the Epee squad once again with two wins.
• The Blue Jays lost to the UNC Tar Heels in the fifth round but earned a 5-4 win in the Epee. Werrell and freshman
Liam McKinley each won two bouts, with McKinley clinching the win for Hopkins.
• JHU wrapped up the day with a loss to Yale, though the Jays did win the Sabre. Wood and Mehta each won two of their bouts with Mehta clinching the win.

How it Happened • Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational
• Hopkins kicked off the day with a close 15-12 win over Navy and earned wins in the Foil (7-2) and Epee (5-4). Sophomore
Matthew Jacobs led the Blue Jays by winning all three of his bouts in the Foil. Freshman
Jeffrey Wang also went 3-0, including the clinching win, in the Epee.
• The Blue Jays then cruised to a 26-1 win over the Tribe of William & Mary. Jacobs and seniors
Jake Joram and
Jun Choi each went 3-0 to lead the Foil squad to a 9-0 win. Wang, freshman
Kent Kotaka and sophomore
Kyle Kennedy turned the same trick in the Epee. And in the Sabre, junior
Jake Desman and sophomore
Paul Lam each went 3-0 in the Jays' 8-1 win.
• Hopkins then fell 18-9 to host Haverford, but earned a 5-4 win in the Epee. Kotaka and Wang each won two bouts while Kennedy clinched the win in the Epee.
