Three Blue Jays Named To Academic All-District Team

Caitlin Hendricks, Alex Damron & Carly Lupton-Smith Named To District 2 First Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Three members of the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team have been named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, it was announced Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays are the only team in District 2 with three players selected; Alexandra Damron, Caitlin Hendricks, and Carly Lupton-Smith.
 
The 2019 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on December 3.
 
Hopkins has now produced 44 CoSIDA Academic All-District women's soccer selections. The Blue Jays have placed at least three players on the All-District team seven times since 2005, including four in 2016 and 2018.
 
Damron, a junior defender from Ridgefield, CT, boasts a 3.51 cumulative GPA while majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in French. Helping to anchor a defense that has allowed just 0.89 goals per game, Damron has also contributed on the offensive end. She has added a goal and three assists this season while playing nearly 1,400 minutes.
 
Off-the-field, Damron has an equally impressive resume. The junior is currently a Research Assistant with Johns Hopkins Hospital's Department of Neurology. She spent time with the Johns Hopkins Hospital John G. Bartlett Specialty Clinic as an Undergraduate Observer & Volunteer. On top of that, the Ridgefield, CT native has also completed undergraduate research with the JHU Center for Sensory Biology.
 
The defender is also a member of the Johns Hopkins Track & Field team where she has earned All-Conference honors. She is a member of the JHU SAAC Marketing Subcommittee and is an Executive Administrator with Alpha Phi. 

Hendricks, a sophomore goalkeeper from San Diego, CA, holds a 3.83 cumulative GPA while majoring in Public Health. In net, Hendricks has been stout in her first season as a full-time starter. Hendricks has started 16 games in net and holds a goals against average of 0.94. The sophomore keeper has made 57 saves and has earned 10 victories in net this season. 

Away from the pitch, Hendricks has stayed busy with academics and other extra-curricular activities. The California native spent time as a Research Assistant at UC-San Diego's Center for Wireless and Population Health Systems this summer. She currently serves as a member of the Blue Jays LEAD Council, is on the Phi Mu (Gamma Tau Chapter) Philanthropy Committee and has spent time with the Students Consulting for Non-Proft Organizations. 

In the past, Hendricks has been a Scripps Memorial Hospital Volunteer, interned with The Pride Law Firm and spent time with Project Concern as an International Global Volunteer in India.

Lupton-Smith caps off an impressive career with another honor, as the Cary, NC native holds a 3.98 GPA with majors in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Psychology. Lupton-Smith is a senior leader on the field, playing over 1,400 minutes, starting in every contest, and adding two goals from the midfield this season. 

The team captain won the Naddor Prize from the JHU Department of Applied Math & Statistics in 2019 and is currently a Research Assistant with Dr. Elizabeth Stuart at the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is currently the Assistant New Member Director with Phi Mu (Gamma Tau Chapter) and is a Captains Cohort Member with Blue Jays LEAD. 

The senior North Carolinian has interned with UNC's Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment as an Applied Statistics Intern and also with the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education and Research (CIPhER).
