Maclean and Moore Named United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, MO – Johns Hopkins men's soccer juniors Alejandro Maclean and RJ Moore have been named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America First Team it was announced today. Maclean and Moore are two of the just three juniors on the first team. In total, just 12 of the 35 players selected to the three teams are juniors.

To be eligible for selection, the student athlete must be nominated by his head coach and meet the following criteria: Have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; Start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., all-conference) or contributions to the success of his team; Plays for a current United Soccer Coaches College Services member institution; Be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; Be in his second year at the current institution if a transfer student.

Those meeting the above criteria are considered by the committee for one of the Scholar All-America teams. The committee reviews both the academic and athletic accomplishments of the nominees. Hopkins has now produced nine United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) Scholar All-Americans, including six under head coach Craig Appleby. This is the second time in the last three years, and third time overall, that JHU has had multiple Scholar All-Americans.

Maclean and Moore led Hopkins to a 17-3-1 record and the program's first Centennial Conference Championship in a decade. The Blue Jays advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and were ranked as high as third in the nation.

Moore is majoring in applied mathematics and statistics and boasts a 3.90 GPA. He has started all 60 games of his career and boasts six goals and 15 assists. The 2019 Centennial Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year, Moore has earned All-Centennial honors three times and United Soccer Coaches All-Mid-Atlantic honors twice.

Maclean has a 3.56 cumulative GPA as an economics major. He has played in 58 games, with 51 starts, and counts 14 goals and eight assists in his career. He earned his first career all-region honor this season and is a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection.
