The Short Story: After going 0-5 against a tough field of competition at the Duke Invitational, the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team rebounded with a 5-0 performance at Drew on Sunday.

How it Happened • Duke
• Hopkins opened the weekend with back-to-back close losses to North Carolina and Boston College. The Epee squads went 5-4 in both matches, with junior
Tiger Gao clinching both wins and going a combined 5-1. In addition, senior
William Snyder won four of his six bouts. The Foil squads went 6-3 in both matches with senior
Solomon Polansky winning all six of his bouts. Junior
Adam Katwan went 5-1 in the two matches.
• The Blue Jays then fell to the fourth-ranked Nittany Lions, with the Foil (6-3) and Epee (5-4) squads losing close rounds. Air Force then beat Hopkins with a tight sweep of all three weapons. Snyder won all three of his bouts as the Epee squad dropped a 5-4 decision. JHU wrapped up the day against host and sixth-ranked Duke in a 22-5 loss.

How it Happened • Drew
• The Blue Jays kicked off Sunday with a 17-10 win over Drew, with 7-2 wins by both the Sabre and Foil squads. Freshman
Eryk Kokosinski and Katwan each went undefeated to lead their respective squads.
• Hopkins followed with a 19-8 win over Cornell and big wins by the Sabre (9-0) and Epee (6-3) squads. Kokosinski and freshman
Paul Lam went a combined 6-0 in the Sabre. Gao, Snyder and sophomore
Neel Maddineni each won two bouts for the Epee squad.
• The Blue Jays then beat the Leopards by the same score, once again getting easy wins by the Sabre (7-2) and Epee (9-0) squads. Maddineni, Gao and freshman
Kyle Kennedy combined for nine wins in the Epee, while Kokosinski won all of three of his bouts to lead the Sabre team.
• Hopkins then swept all three weapons en route to the win over Rutgers. Lam and Kokosinski combined for four wins to lead the Sabre squad to a close 5-4 win. Sophomore
Eashan Gupta and Gao each went unbeaten in to lead the Foil (5-4) and Epee (6-3) squads.
• JHU ended the weekend with an easy 26-1 win over TCNJ. Lam and sophomore
Jake Desman each went 3-0 to lead the Sabre squad to a 9-0 win. Maddineni, Snyder and Kennedy did the same for the Epee squad. And in th Foil, it was Polansky and Gupta each winning their three bouts.

What it Means
• Gao finished the weekend with 194 wins, leaving him just six wins shy of becoming the eighth Epeeist in program history to earn 200 career wins.
• Snyder needs just four wins to reach 150 for his career and currently ranks 19
th in school history in Epee wins.
• Senior
Brian Huang now has 141 career wins and needs nine to reach the 150-win mark. He currently ranks 23
rd in program history in career Sabre wins.
