• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a tough 7-2 loss to 15^th-ranked NC Wesleyan Saturday in Newport News, VA.
 
How it Happened
• The Battling Bishops jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match with a sweep of the doubles, with two of those wins coming in tiebreakers. Jesus Gil and Adi Iyer grabbed the first point of the match with an 8-1 win at third doubles over sophomore Vishnu Joshi and junior Vik Vasan.
• Jhonny Acosta and Ingmar Remmerswaal then pulled out a 9-7 (4) win at second over seniors Colin Muraika and Scott Thygesen. The Bishops completed the sweep as Giannis Brokakis and Roberto Puig won by the same score over juniors Joe Cartledge and Austin Gu.
• Joshi earned a point for the Blue Jays, taking the first match in singles, with a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Brokakis at first. Iyer followed with a 6-2, 7-6 (1) win at third over Gu. Puig then clinched the win for NC Wesleyan with a 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 win at second over Thygesen.
• Juan Vallejo followed with a three-set win over junior Cody Kim 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at fourth singles. Acosta pushed the Bishops' lead to 7-1 with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Cartledge at sixth. Freshman Naevin Anukornchaikul closed out the match and earned another point for Hopkins with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gil at fifth.

• Hopkins falls to 5-5 all-time against NC Wesleyan, with the Bishops winning the last two meetings.

• Hopkins returns to action on Sunday with a pair of split squad matches. Hopkins will take on host Christopher Newport at 9:00 am and will face Delaware at Noon in Elkton, MD.
