• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team finished in second place at the 2019 MACFA Championships Sunday at Drew University. In addition, the Blue Jays finished second in the Foil and third in the Epee and Sabre.

How it Happened
• Hopkins finished in second place with 99 victories, out of 126 bouts, including 497 touches scored. The Blue Jays have now finished first or second at the MACFA Championship in each of the last seven years, with five championships during that same time span.
• The Foil squad took silver with 36 victories. Senior Solomon Polansky and junior Adam Katwan led Blue Jays in the individual competition as they finished in a tie for third place. Furthermore, freshman Noah Park placed eighth.
• The Epee squad finished in third place with 33 victories. Junior Tiger Gao took home silver in the individual competition, while senior William Snyder placed eighth.
• The Sabre squad also finished in third place, notching 30 victories. Freshman Eryk Kokosinski led the squad as he finished in a tie for third. In addition, sophomore Vance Wood took home eight place.

What it Means
• Polansky's third-place finish is his second straight at the MACFA Championship, while it is the second in the last three years for Katwan. In addition, Polansky earned his 200th career win, making him the 15th Foilist in program history to reach the mark. He is also the second Blue Jay to do so this season, joining Gao in the exclusive club.
• For Gao, this is his second consecutive runner-up finish and third career top-three finish. Meanwhile, Snyder places in the top 16 for the first time in his career.
• Hopkins has now placed at least one Sabre fencer in the top three at seven of the last nine championships in which the Blue Jays have competed. This is also the second straight year that a freshman has placed in the top three for the Blue Jays.
