BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse freshmen Joey Epstein and Matt Narewski helped lead the Blue Jays to a 16-11 win at second-ranked Maryland last Saturday.  Today, they were honored for their efforts in the victory as Narewski was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week, while Epstein earned Big Ten Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week and also landed a spot on the USILA Team of the Week.
 
Narewski came off the bench and won 16-of-26 faceoffs and added eight ground balls after Maryland had won four of the first five faceoffs of the game.  The 16 faceoff wins were one shy of his career high and helped him earn his first Big Ten Specialist of the Week award.  Including the game against Maryland, Narewski is 81-of-156 (.519) on faceoffs with 46 ground balls and one assist to his credit this season.
 
Epstein punched up four goals and added two assists for six points in the victory.  The four-goal effort marked the seventh time this season he has scored three or more goals, while his six points mark the eighth time he's had four or more points.  This is the second time he has earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and the fifth time he has been tabbed the Freshman of the Week.  Epstein currently leads the team in goals (35), assists (18) and points (53).
 
Johns Hopkins (7-6, 3-2 B1G) travels to New Jersey this week to play in the Big Ten Tournament.  The second-seeded Blue Jays will play third-seeded Maryland (11-3, 3-2 B1G) in the semifinals on Thursday, May 2 at 7:30 pm.  The game will air live on BTN.
