Maya Hammonds Named Centennial Conference Track Performer of the Year

Seven Blue Jays Earned First Team Honors

LANCASTER, PA – Senior Maya Hammonds was named the Centennial Conference Track Performer of the Year for the outdoor season the league announced on Tuesday. Hammonds also earned All-Centennial first team honors along with six other Blue Jays. Senior Erin Brush was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
 
Hammonds earned the conference field athlete of the year for the indoor campaign and was also the outdoor field athlete of the year in 2018. She is the first Blue Jay to earn both a conference track and a conference field athlete award in their career. The senior captured five event wins at the outdoor championships, claiming the top spot in both the high and long jump events, the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.
 
Joining Hammonds on the first team are sophomores Veronica Montane who won the javelin and triple jump, and Mikayla Bisignani who took home first in the discus. Annie Gutierrez won the heptathlon while Therese Olshanski took home first-place in the 800-meter dash. Rounding out the first team are Caelyn Reilly who won the 5k, and Arielle Summitt who took home the gold in the steeplechase.
 
Hopkins was also well represented on the second team as Gutierrez made the team for her second-place finish in the pole vault and freshman Kelsey Neff notched her first all-conference honor with her performance in the shot put. The JHU 4x400 relay team of Hannah Miller, Brush, Ashley Tyburski and Rachel Neiman earned a second-place finish in the event and Brush also earned second-team honors in the 800-meter dash while Miller earned a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Alexandra Damron rounded out the team with her second-place finish in the 400-meter dash.
 
Sophia Cortazzo earned honorable mention for her performance in the pole vault while Catharine Wain joined her as she notched a third-place finish in the heptathlon. Rounding out the honorable mention honorees for the Blue Jays is Ava Kelley who recorded a third-place finish in the steeplechase.
