Polansky Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's fencing senior Solomon Polansky has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA. This is his first career selection and the first for the men's fencing team since 2015-16. In addition, he is one of only two men's fencer in Division III and one of just four across all three divisions to be named Academic All-District.
 
The District II region includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia. The be nominated for the Google Cloud Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
 
The Men's At-Large Team consists of athletes from the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Polansky now moves on to the national ballot, with the Google Cloud Academic All-America teams set to be announced on June 19.
 
A two-time captain of the fencing team, Polansky will graduate this week with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was the recipient of both the Robert G. Gerstmyer and Charles A. Miller Awards through the Johns Hopkins Department of Mechanical Engineering. Polansky was a teaching assistant for two semesters for "Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Design and CAD" and one semester of "Freshman Mechanical Engineering Lab". He was a summer intern for BAE Systems, Daikin Applied and the Minneapolis Federal Reserve.
 
Polansky led the Foil squad and the entire team in wins (75) this season and ranks 11th in JHU history with 313 career Foil wins. He finished in the top-25 at the NCAA Regional three times and boasts three top-10, including two top-three finishes, at the MACFA Championships. Polansky led the Blue Jays to 73 wins, two MACFA titles and two runner-up finishes in his career. In addition, he was a volunteer fencing coach at the Homewood and Twin Cities Fencing Clubs. He was a Relay for Life team captain and a member of Johns Hopkins' Student-Athlete Advisory Club.
