• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team won two of its bouts at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday with wins over Haverford and Lafayette.

How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day with a 22-5 win over Haverford as the Blue Jays swept all three weapons. Junior Eashan Gupta and sophomore Evan Lau won three bouts each to lead the Foil squad to an 8-1 win. Freshmen Jack Werrell and Danny Comer picked up two wins apiece as the Epee squad won 7-2. And in the Sabre, junior Vance Wood, sophomore Eryk Kokosinski and Sachin Mehta each won two bouts in a 7-2 win.
• The Blue Jays won tight battles in the Foil (5-4) and the Epee (5-4), but an 8-1 loss in the Sabre propelled the Highlanders to a 16-11 win. Gupta and Lau again led the Foil squad with two wins each. Werrell and freshman Jeffrey Wang did the same for the Epee squad.
• The Epee squad earned a close 5-4 win but Hopkins dropped decisions in the Foil (5-4) and Sabre (7-2) in a tough 16-11 loss to host Penn. Gupta won two of his three bouts to pace the Foil squad, while senior Tiger Gao won all three of his for the Foil squad.
• JHU beat North Carolina in the Sabre (5-4), but the Tar Heels earned wins in the Foil (7-2) and Epee (8-1) to take the 19-8 win. Mehta and sophomore Paul Lam each won two bouts to lead the Sabre squad to victory.
• Hopkins closed out the day with a 22-5 win over Lafayette, again winning all three bouts. Lau led the Foil squad to a 7-2 win as he won all three of his bouts. Comer and Wang combined for six wins to lead the Epee squad to an 8-1 win. Wood won all three of his bouts to lead the Sabre squad to a 7-2 win.
