Gutierrez Earns Second Straight Centennial Field Athlete of Week Honor

The Junior Set A School-Record In The Pole Vault On Saturday

Lancaster, PA - Annie Gutierrez was named Centennial Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week it was announced this morning. This is the third career honor for Gutierrez. 

Gutierrez, a junior pole vaulter out of Coral Gables, FL, finished first in the pole vault at the George Mason Patriot Games this past weekend. The junior won a tiebreaker with a 3.71 meter vault, setting a new Johns Hopkins school-record. The vault shattered her previous record of 3.56 meters, making her the first Blue Jay to surpass the 12-foot mark.

Gutierrez picked up another event win on the weekend, scoring 3,289 points to earn a pentathlon victory. Gutierrez won the 800 Meter with a time of 2:28.03 while also cruising to a win in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.15, a new PR. The junior placed second in both the high jump and the long jump, while grabbing fourth in the shot put to earn the overall pentathlon victory. Her score 3,289 puts her third nationally at the DIII level. 

The Blue Jays travel to New York this weekend to participate in the NYU DIII Invitational on Friday afternoon.
