Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Jill Guise

11th-Ranked Loyola Bests Johns Hopkins

The Basics
• Score: #11 Loyola-16, #24 Johns Hopkins-7
• Records: JHU (1-1) • LU (1-0)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Ridley Athletic Complex
• The Short Story: Host and 11th-ranked Loyola used a pair of five-goal runs to take control of the game en route to a 16-7 win over 24th-ranked Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the game's opening 11 minutes. Shelby Harrison struck first, when she took a cross-fan pass from Aurora Cordingley and scored on a high-to-low shot. The Blue Jays doubled their lead at the 25:35-mark as they capitalized on a failed Greyhound clear. Mackenzie Heldberg found Maggie Schneidereith all-alone on the crease for the quick score.
• Loyola got on the board with 22:48 to play on an Ellie Kluegel scored from the right alley. Harrison answered with a free position goal, followed by a Heldberg one-timer and the Blue Jays' lead was 4-1.
• The Greyhounds answered with five straight over a nearly 18-minute span to take a 6-4 lead. Four different players scored during the run, with Sam Fielder scoring the final two to give the 'Hounds the two-goal lead.
• Cordingley ended the long-drought for the Blue Jays with a nifty heads-up goal with 1:15 to go in the half. With Cordingley at goal-line extended, the Loyola goalie slid out to cut off the passing lane. Cordingley took advantaged and scored from the tough angle. Loyola would have the final say of the half however as Emily Wills scored off the dodge with just 29.9 ticks on the clock to send the 'Hounds into the half with a 7-5 lead.
• Cordingley converted a free position shot just 4:12 into the half to cut the deficit in half. But Loyola answered with a five-goal run to push out to a 12-6 lad with 13:15 to play. Cordingley ended the run with her third of the game when she dodged from behind off a restart and beat Kaitlyn Larsson from in-tight. The Greyhounds responded with another four-goal spurt to close out the game.

What it Means
