Eight is Great - Hopkins Wins Eighth Straight Centennial Indoor Title

Canedy Sets CC Record With Four Individual Titles

Meet Information
Meet: Centennial Conference Championship
Location: Lancaster, PA
Date: March 1, 2020
The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's indoor track team won its eighth consecutive Centennial Conference title on Sunday afternoon at Franklin & Marshall College as the Blue Jays closed the two-day championship with 212.5 points – 73.5 more than runner-up Ursinus, which accumulated 139 points.

Have a Day Justin
Sophomore Justin Canedy turned Sunday's second day of the championship into his own personal showcase as he placed first in four events.  He is the first person in Centennial Conference history to win four individual titles at the CC Indoor Championship meet.

Canedy placed first in the 60-meter dash (6.98), the 60-meter hurdles (8.45), the high jump (2.02m/6'7.5") and the long jump (7.05m/23'1.75").

Notes of Interest About Canedy's Performance
• His title in the 60-meter dash is his second straight and the third straight for Johns Hopkins.
• He is the fourth consecutive Blue Jay to win the 60-meter hurdles.
• He is the sixth Johns Hopkins performer to win the high jump and the first since Ryan Walsh won in 2012.  JHU's six individual winners in the high jump are a league record.
• He is the seventh Blue Jay to win the long jump.  All seven have come since 2012, when Alex Jebb won the first of the seven and his jump today was just the third winning mark longer than 23-feet.
• He is just the third person in Centennial history to win the high jump and the long jump in the same year and the first to do so since Carlson Pickens of Haverford in 2007.

Posten Wins Heptathlon
Freshman Liam Posten helped Johns Hopkins continue its dominance of the Heptathlon as he became the seventh consecutive Blue Jay to win the event.  In fact, since the league added the event in 2013, Johns Hopkins has produced seven of the eight gold medalists.

Posten totaled 4,352 points to edge Nicholas Grissinger of Gettysburg, who grabbed silver with 4,275 points.  Posten trailed Grissinger by eight points entering the final two events before he won the pole vault (4.13m) and the 1,000-meter run (2:48.84) to grab the title.  Among the seven events, he won the final two and placed second in three others to secure his title.

Su Grabs One Silver, Two Bronze
Senior Matt Su added to his already impressive career resume at the Centennial Championships as he placed second in the long jump (6.88m) and third in both the 60-meter dash (7.05) and Heptathlon (3,890).

Blue Jays Go 1-3-4 in 3000
Johns Hopkins produced its first-ever champion in the 3000-meter run and grabbed 20 team points in the event as the Blue Jays went 1-3-4.

The honor being Johns Hopkins' first champion in the event goes to Declan Hines, who clocked in at 8:33.19 to edge Muhlenberg's Jason Richwall (8:34.90).  Jared Pangallozzi (8:35.58) and PJ Murray (8:41.88) placed third and fourth for the Blue Jays.

Other Top Three Finishes
Johns Hopkins added a runner-up finish in the 800 from Alex Dixon (1:56.52), a third-place finish from Elias Boussouf (8.69) and bronze-medal showings from its 4x400 (3:29.17) and 4x800 (8:06.42) relay teams.

Nearly a Record
The 212.5 points the Blue Jays accumulated narrowly missed the Centennial record of 215, which was set by Johns Hopkins in 2018.

Topping 200
The 212.5 points for Johns Hopkins marked just the sixth time in the history of the Centennial Indoor Men's Track Championships that a team topped the 200-point mark.  Johns Hopkins has done it four times with Haverford reaching the mark twice.

Final Scores
1. Johns Hopkins – 212.5
2. Ursinus – 139
3. Dickinson – 97
4. Muhlenberg – 76

6. Gettysburg – 55
