The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team wrapped up the season at the 2020 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday with three Blue Jays placing in the top-20 in their respective weapons.

How it Happened
• Junior
Eashan Gupta and sophomore
Noah Park represented Hopkins in the Foil. Gupta finished in a tie for 22
nd overall, out of 35 fencers, and second among Division III fencers. Park placed two spots back in 24
th place.
• The Blue Jays had three fencers in the Epee, led by freshman
Jeffrey Wang, who finished in 18
th overall and third among DIII fencers. Freshman
Jack Werrell took 30
th place, ninth in DIII, and senior
Tiger Gao finished in 31
st, 10
th in DIII.
• In the Sabre, the Blue Jays had four fencers compete. Freshman
David DeScherer led JHU with a 14
th place finish overall, and second among DIII fencers. Freshman
Sachin Mehta took 19
th place overall and was third in DIII. Sophomore
Eryk Kokosinski placed 27
th overall and classmate
Paul Lam was 29
th. The pair were seventh and eighth, respectively, among DIII fencers.

What it Means
• Gao finishes his career with 254 wins to rank 12
th in program history among all weapons. In the Epee, his 254 wins are third all-time.
• Wang led the Epee squad with 57 wins and is the first freshman to lead the Epee squad in wins since Gao in 2017. Gupta led the Foil squad with 60 wins and was third overall on the team in wins. Mehta led the Sabre squad and the team with 66 wins. This is the second straight year that a freshman led the Sabre squad in wins (Kokoskinski • 2019). He is also the first freshman to lead the overall team in wins since Sandy Vingoe in 2015.  Â
