Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed an early 1-0 lead off the stick of senior
Maddie Brown-Scherer. Senior
Avery Seward sent a long hit through traffic to Brown-Scherer in the circle, and she back-handed a shot past Green Terror goalie Mikayla Smith just over four minutes in.
• The Blue Jays pushed their lead to two late in the opening quarter when freshman
Liz Falterer took a pass from freshman
Sophie Gomez and lifted a shot over Smith from a tough angle into the top of the cage.
• Senior
Bryn Rolon made it a three-goal game with 1:29 to play in the second quarter. Senior
Abby Birk dribbled down the right side and then centered the ball into the circle, where Rolon banged it home.
• Hopkins extended the lead midway through the third quarter when senior
Megan Abate redirected a hard hit from Brown-Scherer.
• The Blue Jays then added three goals in the fourth to seal the win. On the left side, Birk cut back on her defender and hit a rocket towards the McDaniel cage that freshman
Emily Amsden tipped in at the back post with 10:30 to play. Sophomore
Maura Minter then notched back-to-back goals just 64 seconds apart, tipping in hits by Birk and junior
Sadie Abboud.
