The Short Story: In a rematch of the last two Centennial Conference title games, the second-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team shutout visiting Franklin & Marshall, 4-0, Wednesday night.

How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed the early lead off the stick of senior
Myra Granato. Senior
Abby Birk fired a hard shot from the middle of the circle that was cleared off the line by Alison McCarey. The ball ended up on the stick of Granato, who scored from in-tight at 4:35.
• The Blue Jays pushed their lead to two at the 21:46-mark with senior
Maddie Brown-Scherer's team-leading 11
th goal of the season. Freshman
Jenna Halpin ran onto a loose ball near the endline, spun around her defender and then back-handed a pass to Brown-Scherer in the middle of the circle. Brown-Scherer collected the pass and then blasted a shot into the middle of the cage.
• Junior
Tessa Erickson scored the first of her two goals on the night just 1:34 into the thir quarter. After Dips goalie Sydney Lippe made back-to-back saves off a Blue Jay corner, Erickson slotted home her own rebound to put Hopkins up 3-0.
• Erickson wrapped up the scoring at 51:27 and staked Hopkins to a 4-0 lead. Senior
Abby Birk dribbled towards the circle and sent a pass down low to Erickson. She turned and buried a low shot inside the right post for her second goal of the night.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 27-16-1 all-time against Franklin & Marshall and has won four of the last five meetings. This is the Blue Jays' largest margin of victory over the Diplomats since a 4-0 win on October 15, 2008.
• The Blue Jays clinched the number one seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament with the win. JHU has been the top seed in the tournament in three of the last four tournaments.
• With the win, Hopkins ties the school record for consecutive wins at 15. In addition, Hopkins has now won 27 straight at Homewood Field.

• Erickson's two goals are a career-high and give her seven on the year, good for second on the team. Brown-Scherer moves into a tie for ninth in school history with her 27
th career goal and she also ranks ninth in career points with 76.
• With her assist in the fourth quarter, Birk tied Leah Horton's school record for career assists with 31.
• Sophomore
Alexis Loder got the win with one save in 54 minutes of action. Junior
Morgan Seward played the final six minutes and did not face a shot. Lippe finished with seven saves for Franklin & Marshall.
• Hopkins outshot Franklin & Marshall, 20-1, and had an 11-3 advantage in corners.
• The Blue Jays have held each of their last three opponents to just one shot each.

• Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 27 as the Blue Jays travel to Chestertown, MD to take on Washington College. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start at Roy Kirby Jr., Stadium.
