Five Blue Jays Named To United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams

Five Blue Jays were named to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Women's Region V All-Region teams it was announced this week. Caitlin Hendricks, Bonnie Shea, Katie Sullivan, Rachel Jackson and Amaya Ellis all represented Johns Hopkins with All-Region selections.

Hopkins now has 76 all-time All-Region selections and the five selections in 2021 ties the program-record for most selections in a season, matching 2011 and 2017. This is the fifth straight season in which Johns Hopkins placed three student-athletes on the All-Region first team.

Hendricks, a senior goalkeeper from San Diego, CA, joined McDaniel keeper Katherine Carstensen on the All-Region first team after earning Second Team All-Centennial honors earlier this month. Hendricks played in all 20 games this season, making 19 starts, totaling just over 1,671 minutes and compiling a record of 15-2-2. Hendricks allowed just 10 goals all season, stopping 77 shots and contributing time in all 12 of the Blue Jays shutouts this season. She continues to add to her impressive list of accolades, as she is already one of just five players in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors three times. The California native is fourth all-time in career saves, fourth in career shutouts and fifth in career minutes played. She also ranks in the top-five in goals against average and save percentage in program history.

Joining Hendricks on the first team is Shea, a graduate defender from Atlanta, GA, and Sullivan, a freshman forward from Yardley, PA. Shea certainly managed to make an impact in her first year with the program after transferring in from Dartmouth. The Ivy League product led the team in minutes played, totaling 1,749 of them while starting every game at center back. While leading and organizing one of the top defenses in the country, Shea also contributed on the offensive end, scoring three goals in 2021, all via the header. Shea played at least 90 minutes in 16 of the 20 games.

Sullivan becomes the 10th Blue Jay freshman to earn All-Region honors and just the fifth to be named to the first team. In her debut season, Sullivan led the team in points, totaling 25, good for the eighth-most by a Blue Jay freshman. The Pennsylvanian scored 10 goals and handed out five assists, compiling a seven-game streak from October 9 to October 30 in which she tallied at least one point. Sullivan was the fourth Blue Jay in program history to be named Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year earlier this month. Her 10 goals as a freshman put her ninth in Blue Jay freshman history.

Jackson earned another All-Region honor, going three-for-three in her career. Jackson was a first-teamer in 2018 and 2019 before earning second team honors in 2021. Jackson continued to add to her illustrious Blue Jay career totals as she added eight goals and five assists this season while being the focus of many teams defensive efforts. For her career, Jackson is tied for 12th in program history with 28 goals and 14th in program history with 68 points.

Last, but certainly not least, Ellis was chosen as a third team selection in her first year with the program. Ellis played in all 20 games, providing a physical presence in the midfield. The Illinois transfer added a goal and an assist and totaled nearly 1,200 minutes played for the Jays. Her first goal as a Blue Jay came in the NCAA Tournament first round vs. Gordon. Ellis was also a second team selection on the All-Centennial team.
