PROVIDENCE, RI– The Johns Hopkins women's swimming team posted five NCAA qualifying times to headline its efforts on the first day of the Bruno Invitational at Brown University on Friday.  With those five swims leading the way, the Blue Jays are currently tied for second place in the four-team invitational; the host Bears lead the way with 331 points, while Johns Hopkins and NYU (207) are tied for second with New Hampshire (189) not far behind.

The Qualifiers
Headlining the effort for Johns Hopkins on day one were a pair of top-three finishes by the 200 Free Relay and 400 Medley Relay teams, which both hit NCAA qualifying standards.

The 200 Free Relay team of Alicea-Jorgensen, Michelle Liu, Cecilia Cortez and Sophia Girgenti clocked in at 1:36.76 to place third overall, earn 32 points in the team standings and hit the NCAA mark.

Johns Hopkins later closed the first day of competition with a second-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay as the team of Sydney Okubo, Taylor Rohovit, Emerson Davis and Liu touched home in 3:46.92 to earn 34 points with its NCAA qualifying mark.  The time is also the 10th-best in school history.

The Blue Jays also had three individuals meet NCAA qualifying standards with freshman Meghan Susil the first to do so in the second event of the night, the 500 Free.  Susil's time of 4:57.78 was good for third place overall in the event.

Rohovit added an individual NCAA mark to her effort in the 400 Medley Relay as she placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:04.81).

Alicea-Jorgensen narrowly missed giving the Blue Jays an individual first-place finish as she placed second in the 50 Free with a time of 23.39.  Her mark hit the NCAA standard and was good for 17 points in the team standings.
