Milliman, Blue Jays Welcome Newest Member of Program

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Peter Milliman and his 2022 Blue Jays officially welcomed the newest member of their team, Kyle Skakle, at a special ceremony at Deep Run Elementary School on Tuesday, December 7.  The signing of Skakle is the first for the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse program through its partnership with Team IMPACT.

A die-hard sports fan, the eight-year-old Skakle is living with cerebral palsy.  Among the many sports he loves, lacrosse is his favorite and he enjoys playing at home with his father, Mark, and older brother, Jackson.  He enjoys watching the Maryland Thunder and other wheelchair lacrosse teams, will be a fixture at Homewood Field and the Cordish Lacrosse Center and looks forward to building a relationship not just with members of the team and coaching staff, but also members of the Johns Hopkins community and the thousands of Blue Jay lacrosse fans who will visit Homewood Field during the 2022 season.

Skakle was joined at his official signing by his mother, Laura, father and bother, members of the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team and coaching staff, his teachers and administrators at Deep Run Elementary and more than 100 of his friends and classmates.

About Team IMPACT
Team IMPACT is the only U.S. nonprofit that tackles the emotional trauma and social isolation experienced by children facing serious and chronic illnesses by matching them with a college athletic team. The two-year therapeutic program complements a child's medical treatments, allowing the child to develop relationships and skills that help them complete the full circle of healing.

Through participation in Team IMPACT's clinically informed program, children experience a true sense of belonging, resulting in increased empowerment, normalization, health promotion, and resilience. Families feel connected and supported as their child achieves individualized goals, while experiencing the joy of team camaraderie and inclusion; and student athletes gain perspective and inspiration, as well as lessons in adversity and resilience.

Founded in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 2,100 children with 700+ colleges and universities in 49 states, impacting more than 60,000 student athletes.
