Johns Hopkins Shuts Out Dickinson

The Basics

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team picked up its first shutout of the season as the Blue Jays beat the visiting Dickinson Red Devils, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
 
How it Happened
• The Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles. Freshmen Arjun Asokumar and Rohan Reddy grabbed the first point of the match when they beat Garrick Adams and Chris Rinehart at second without losing a game. Freshman Daniel Ardila and senior Vishnu Joshi followed with an 8-0 win at third over Nick Kohler and Levi Veleanu. Freshmen James and Thomas Yu wrapped up doubles with an 8-1 win at first over Romano De Caprio and Thomas Griffin.
• James Yu quickly pushed Hopkins' lead to 4-0 as he didn't lose a game in his win over Veleanu at third singles. Thomas Yu then turned the same trick in his win at second over Adams to clinch the victory for JHU. Joshi gave Hopkins a 6-0 lead when he defeated Griffin 6-1, 6-1 at first.
• With the match decided, singles play switched to eight-game pro sets. Junior Brian Wang didn't lose a game as he defeated Rinehart at fifth. Sophomore Andrew Tran did the same in his win over Kohler at sixth. Ardila closed out the match with an 8-3 win over De Caprio at fourth.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 44-5 all-time against Dickinson with its 27th straight win in the series.
• The Blue Jays push their win streak to five straight matches, dating back to the start of the 2020 season. In addition, the Jays have won 35 straight regular season conference matches and 117 of their last 118.
• The Yu brothers as well as Ardila all earned their first career singles wins. Asokumar and Reddy earned their first career doubles wins.
